Free Sami Al-Arian -- Hearing Thursday, Feb. 5th

Hearing Thursday to Determine Course of Contempt Trial
Judge will rule on what defenses and evidence may be presented
Lawyers in CourtFebruary 2, 2009 - Alexandria, VA - There will be an important hearing in the case of Dr. Sami Al-Arian this coming Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 10 A.M. sharp at the Albert V. Bryan Courthouse in Alexandria, VA (address below). Judge Leonie Brinkema is expected to rule on what kind of evidence and defenses she will permit to be presented to the jury.
For instance, at the last hearing on January 16th, the judge ruled that Dr. Al-Arian would in fact be allowed to argue that he was acting on the counsel of his attorneys when he decided to refuse to testify before a grand jury on March 20th, 2008. The prosecution, however, has urged the judge to reconsider this ruling.
It is vital that as many of Dr. Al-Arian's supporters as possible attend the hearing. At the last hearing, an impressive seventy supporters showed up, which prompted the judge herself to comment on the strong show of support for Dr. Al-Arian. Supporters are advised to come to the courthouse no later than 9:45 to ensure seating. The courthouse (address below) is in walking distance from the King Street Station (Blue and Yellow Lines).
