FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
UW Students Protest Israeli Attacks

UW Students and Community Members Rally at UW HUB Lawn to Protest and Call an End to the Israeli Attacks and Siege on Gaza with “Rally Against Genocide in Gaza.”

Seattle, WA - January 5, 2008 - A large number of students and community members are expected to turn out to a rally at the University of Washington against the Israeli attacks and siege on Gaza. Students from across campus and community members will rally at the University of Washington HUB lawn on Thursday, January 8, 2008 from 12-2 PM with a march on campus. It will hosted by Students for Justice in Palestine, UW Chapter (SJP-UW).

Rana Haddad, President of SJP-UW, says of the rally “We are speaking out for the hundreds of innocent Palestinian women, children, and men killed and thousands wounded at the hands of the Israeli occupation army. Israel is targeting schools, apartment buildings, houses, and markets under the guise that they are seeking out ‘terrorists’.

Haddad goes on to say “For years now, Israel's unjust siege of Gaza has had its people living in horrible conditions with extremely limited access to water, food, medicine, and the basic necessities of life. This ongoing genocide of Palestinians needs to stop immediately, in the name of humanity.”

This rally is a response to the current attacks on the Palestinian people of Gaza that began Dec. 27, 2008 by the Israeli Defense Forces and continues with no cease fire insight. To date, over 500 Palestinians have been killed with over 2450 injured. On January 3, 2008, ground incursions by the Israeli military began and continue in Gaza. Palestinians have very limited access to food and water only through the few aid missions, with strict Israeli control, and they hardly have any access to electricity.
