Internal Report Raises Questions In Bell Shooting

"(CBS) NEW YORK A preliminary report on the shooting death of Sean Bell is raising controversial questions about what exactly happened the night of the shooting.

"The internal investigative police document, obtained by CBS 2 News, does not include the accounts of the officers who fired their weapons, but it does detail interviews from other officers on scene during and after the shooting, along with interviews from several witnesses.

"Contrary to published reports, the preliminary report is absent of any details of the possible fourth man involved. Detectives on the case have been scouring the city for this mystery man who may have been armed.

And this from Socialist Worker found on Counterpunch.org

"Sean Bell's murder is one of the most outrageous police killings since Amadou Diallo was shot 41 times by police who claim they thought the wallet he was taking out of his pocket looked like a gun.

"Like Diallo, Bell and his two friends, Trent Benefield and Jose Guzman, were unarmed. But that didn't stop police from firing 50 bullets into the car that carried the three. "It was an execution," Nicole Paultre told a New York radio station. "They barricaded him in and executed him."

"Benefield has been released from the hospital, but as Socialist Worker went to press, Guzman was still in critical condition.
